The Event:

Wichita, Kan, The Friends University Concert Band will present its opening season concert on Monday, Sept. 27 at 7:30 p.m. Conducted by Assistant Professor of Music Education and Director of Bands, Shawn M. Knopp, the concert will feature a variety of classics including Holsts Second Suite in F, as well as works by Fillmore, Bernstein, Clarke and Dragon. Featured soloist will be Dr. Nick Schroeder, visiting assistant professor of music and interim program director of jazz, on Herbert Clarkes virtuosic cornet solo, Carnival of Venice. "We are thrilled to feature Dr. Schroeder in this concert! Carnival of Venice is a series of theme and variations which requires virtuosic displays of multiple tonguing and fast tempos from the soloist. The audience will be dazzled," said Knopp. Tickets for the concert are $6 for adults and $3 for seniors and students.
